Joseph F. Brickey (1973- ), Provo

This painting smacks you right in the face. It will bring tears to your eyes in a milisecond. That's how I first encountered Joseph Brickey's oil painting The Living Christ (2009), winner of the Springville Museum of Art's Associate Director's Award in the Exhibition of Spiritual and Religious Art in Utah, 2009.

Jeffery Robert Pugh (1977- ) Salt Lake City

I could hardly believe my eyes. This painting was done by Jeff Pugh? Inconceivable--I have seen a lot of Jeff's work but I have never ever seen a Jeff Pugh painting (A) without landscape, and (B) with a human subject!

Walter C. Rane (1949- ) Salem, Oregon

Please please please, don't judge Walter Rane's artistic merit by the paintings he has hanging in the LDS Conference Center. Or if you must, allow me to draw your attention to one painting, in particular. He has a total of seven paintings there:

Simon Dewey (1962- ) American Fork

I am in an unusual predicament: I am looking at a Simon Dewey Painting that I do not like. Usually, I adore Dewey, whose superior technical skills dazzles his viewers and saves his works from their less-brilliant creative composition. But this painting doesn't reasonate with me. I search for the source of my dislike.
